The Benefits of Drinking Tea for Your Skin
Tea time! I was thinking that many people must be feeling the same as me – wanting to get the nutritious benefits from smoothies and juices, but feeling way too cold!
As I was pouring a cup of decaf English Breakfast this morning, I started thinking about the different types of tea and all of the various benefits they have on my body.
Some great health benefits to help your skin from the inside out:
- Can help wake you up naturally and help you fall asleep
- Many teas contain caffeine, but it has about 2-3x less than the amount than coffee
- Full of antioxidants, which help your body (and skin) from the inside out by fighting free radicals
- Helps to improve your immune system
- Aids in exercise endurance
Herbal tea has been around for centuries all over the world, so it must be effective, right?
When it comes to bedtime, my go-to tea is always chamomile.
This tea is known to promote restful sleep, and also helps ease abdominal pain with its anti-cramping, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties.
I find chamomile tea to be very soothing for my body before falling asleep, and have even drank it throughout the day during times when I need a relaxing beverage.
Two of my favorite teas are green tea and black tea.
I find them so beneficial to my health, and love that they can be served hot or cold, which is perfect depending on the type of drink I’m craving.
Green tea is known as ‘the all-star beauty beverage’!
Benefits include:
- Proven anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits
- Strengthens the teeth
- Decreases insulin resistance
- Inhibits breast cancer
- Burns fat
- Is good for your heart
If you’re looking for a healthy alternative to drinking coffee throughout the day, green tea contains caffeine, but it's not as high in caffeine content as coffee.
This means you can get your energy boost without a case of the jitters.
Black tea is another healthy alternative for hot or iced coffee, with similar antioxidant benefits of green tea.
Black tea contains about half the caffeine of coffee.
Final Thoughts
If you’re thinking of drinking tea, but aren’t sure which type or brand is right for you (I know it can be overwhelming), I think the best way to go about it is to find a tea you like, that doesn’t contain any artificial sugars or sweeteners.
I don’t think the brand is all that important; as long as it is organic tea, you should get all of the benefits.
While tea drinking can be an acquired taste, you can always add milk, honey, or lemon to tailor it to your taste preferences!
